A message from our new CEO

“It is an honour to join St John Tasmania as Chief Executive Officer. I am inspired by the dedication of our staff and volunteers who serve the Tasmanian community with compassion, professionalism and skill every day.

As a proud Tasmanian, I am deeply committed to building safer, healthier communities across our state. My background in the Army, emergency management, and local government has taught me the importance of teamwork, resilience and respect. These are the same values I see reflected in the people of St John.

I seek to treat everyone with respect, and I expect those around me to do the same. While we all have different roles, I view St John Tasmania as one team. Every role is important, whether salaried or volunteer, and together we help make Tasmania a safer place for all.

I am really looking forward to working with you all and building on the great work that St John Tasmania is known for. “

Matt Brocklehurst, Chief Executive Officer

About Matt

Matt is a proud Tasmanian who has dedicated his career to public service and community safety. He grew up in Hobart and, after spending time working interstate, returned home in 2009.

He served more than 35 years in the Australian Army – 20 years in the Regular Army and 15 years as a Reservist – including operational deployments to Bosnia (1997), Bougainville (2001) and Afghanistan (2006). He also qualified as a Commando and spent five years in Special Operations Command.

Following his military service, Matt worked at the Retirement Benefits Fund, Clarence Council and the State Emergency Service (SES), contributing to statewide responses to major emergencies including severe weather events, bushfires and floods.

Outside of work, Matt enjoys bushwalking, surfing, rugby union and renovating his family home with his wife Krysta and their two sons, Will and Sam.

Looking ahead

Matt joins St John Tasmania at an exciting time of growth and renewal. Under his leadership, we look forward to continuing to strengthen our presence in the community and to expand our mission of making first aid accessible for all Tasmanians.
