World First Aid Day 2025 – Recap

More than 600 people came through the doors of our Moonah headquarters to celebrate World First Aid Day, and the atmosphere was buzzing with fun, learning, and community spirit. Families, children, volunteers, and staff all came together with one goal in mind: to make Tasmania a safer, more prepared place.

What is World First Aid Day?

World First Aid Day is an annual global event, held every September, dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of first aid. It reminds us that emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere — and that everyone, no matter their age or background, has the power to make a difference with the right knowledge and skills.

At St John Tasmania, we brought this vision to life with a family-friendly Open Day full of interactive experiences, hands-on training, and opportunities to connect with our volunteers and community.

WFAD
CPR for Kids & Families

Our CPR Lab was one of the busiest spots of the day, with children, parents and grandparents lining up to practise compressions. Many told us it was their first time trying CPR — and that they left feeling more confident about how to act in a real emergency.

w
Youth Program Demos

Our talented St John Youth members showcased moulage (fake wounds) and ran realistic first aid scenarios. Visitors were amazed at their professionalism and skill, and it was inspiring to see the next generation of first aid leaders in action.

w
Ambulance Tours

A chance to step inside a real St John ambulance is always a crowd favourite. Families explored the vehicles, discovered lifesaving equipment, and asked plenty of curious questions about how our teams respond on the road.

w
Pet First Aid Demonstrations

Pets are family too! Our demonstrations showed kids and parents how to help their furry friends if they ever get injured or unwell, from bandaging paws to recognising signs of distress.

Community Spirit and Feedback

One of the best parts of the day was hearing directly from attendees. Parents told us how valuable it was for their children to practise first aid in a safe and supportive environment. Many families commented on how much fun they had while learning — and how the event sparked conversations at home about booking a first aid course.

Volunteers and staff were humbled by the overwhelming support and enthusiasm. From the smallest teddy bear patients to the biggest ambulance tours, the feedback was consistently positive. It was clear that our community values the chance to connect, learn, and build confidence in first aid.

Thank You

Events like this are only possible thanks to the dedication of our volunteers, staff, and community partners. A heartfelt thank you goes to everyone who contributed — and especially to the 600+ attendees who made the day so special.

Every child who tried CPR, every parent who asked a question, and every visitor who left with new knowledge helped us take another step toward our mission: keeping first aid within arm’s reach for every Tasmanian.
