Provide First Aid on SJX Half Day

This St John Ambulance first aid course is a half day full of practical activities and assessments, with all theoretical learning, and most assessments completed online at your own pace before you step into the classroom. It covers a comprehensive range of topics to enable participants to manage emergency situations and provide a first aid response to a casualty, teaching you how to confidently handle the most common first aid injuries and illnesses.

Provide First Aid on SJX Half Day is designed for people who complete their training regularly and enjoy a fast-paced learning environment.

This new version of our famous Provide First Aid course combines our love for fun and immersive practical training, with the efficiency of video enhanced training.
Students review real world scenarios, and complete their assessment questions using their own phones/smart devices.

The combination of screen technology and trainer facilitating allows for effective high quality training.

Students must complete a mandatory e-learning module, and their assessment questions before attending the course

What certification do you get?

This is an accredited course. On successful completion of this course you will be issued a statement of attainment in:

  • HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

St John recommends, as per the First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice and the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, that first aid skills are renewed every 3 years (HLTAID011) and resuscitation skills (HLTAID009) are renewed every 12 months.

COURSE OUTLINE

The course covers the following: 

• Roles and responsibilities of the first aider
• The DRSABCD action plan and responding to emergency situations
• Managing unconscious casualties
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
• Using a defibrillator (AED)
• Legal issues in first aid
• Infection control
• Diabetes and seizures
• Asthma
• Allergic reactions and Anaphylaxis
• Wound and bleeding management
• Burns
• Fractures and dislocations
• Sprains and strains
• Hypothermia and hyperthermia
• Head, neck, and spinal injuries
• Medical emergencies
• Choking
• Abdominal and chest injuries
• Poisoning management
• Bites and stings
• Stroke
• Safety and risk management

Students must complete a mandatory e-learning module, and their assessment questions before attending the course

SJX:
Bring Your Own Device: All assessments can be performed on your own device eliminating paper and improving accuracy.

Assessment as you GO: Assessment questions are completed throughout the course.

Immersive Videos: Training content is explained and then demonstrated using situational REAL-WORLD scenarios improving recall and embedding skills to use decisively and confidently in emergency situations.

The video based learning allows our trainers to be more efficient, meaning all material can be covered in class on the day.
