There’s more than one way to volunteer with St John

There’s more than one way to volunteer with St John

When you think of volunteering with St John, chances are you picture someone in green providing first aid at a sporting event, festival or community gathering.

And while Event Health Services is a big part of what our volunteers do, there are plenty of other ways to get involved.

You could help an older Tasmanian get to an appointment. Spend a few hours helping someone with their shopping or garden. Teach children what to do in an emergency. Support young people to develop new skills and confidence.

You don't need to be a health professional. And you don't need to be interested in providing first aid at events.

You just need to find the kind of volunteering that's right for you.

Community Care

Sometimes helping someone means doing something very simple.

Our Community Care volunteers help Tasmanians maintain their independence and connection to their community through practical, everyday support.

That might mean providing transport to an appointment, helping with shopping, offering social support or lending a hand with basic gardening.

It's flexible, practical volunteering that can make a very real difference to someone's day. Find out more about Community Care

Community education

You can also volunteer by helping more Tasmanians learn lifesaving skills.

Our community education activities take practical first aid knowledge into schools and communities, helping people build the confidence to respond when something goes wrong.

If you're comfortable working with people and enjoy sharing what you know, this can be a rewarding way to help build a more prepared Tasmania.

Youth

Our Adult Youth Leaders help young people learn first aid, develop leadership skills, build friendships and contribute to their communities.

You don't need to be a paramedic or health professional to become a Youth Leader. If you enjoy working with young people and want to help them develop confidence and practical skills, you could have plenty to offer. Find out more

Find your way to help

There isn't one type of St John volunteer.

Some thrive in the middle of a busy event. Others would much rather spend an afternoon helping someone in their local community. Some love teaching, mentoring or working with young people.

There's more than one way to be here to help.

Find the opportunity that suits you and become a St John volunteer.
