St John Ambulance Tasmania today announces a change in Board leadership, marking an important moment of continuity and transition. The Board has elected David Hughes as its incoming Chair, succeeding Brad Watson, who will step down as he prepares to relocate interstate for a new professional appointment.
Brad has led St John Tasmania with great commitment and integrity. Under his stewardship, the organisation has achieved several significant milestones, including the adoption of a new Strategic Plan, a new Constitution and our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan, the opening of our new Devonport premises, and the recruitment of a new CEO. His leadership has strengthened our foundations and positioned St John for the future.
We also warmly welcome David Hughes as incoming Chair. David has served as a member of St John Tasmania’s Board for more than five years, and his deep operational experience, governance expertise, and long-standing commitment to community service will provide strong and steady leadership for St John Tasmania.
David is currently the Official Secretary to the Governor of Tasmania and brings a distinguished background in public service and Defence. Prior to his current role, he served in the Aviation Corps and later in the Army Reserve in Tasmania. He also commanded the Australian Defence Force’s support to the State during the COVID-19 response in 2020, including the deployment to the North West Regional Hospital.
Brad’s final engagement as Chair will be the annual Board dinner on 1 December, after which he will formally conclude his duties. David will commence as Chair on 2 December.
We thank Brad for his outstanding leadership and commitment to St John Tasmania, and we look forward to supporting David as he steps into the role. Together with our dedicated staff and volunteers, we remain focused on strengthening community safety and delivering our mission across the state.
