Safe Town East Coast Tour Recap

Over the past week, our Business Development Manager Ange travelled across Tasmania’s East Coast, visiting Triabunna, Bicheno and St Helens as part of our Safe Town initiative.

This tour marked a soft launch of the Safe Town program, an initiative focused on building safer, more connected communities by improving access to first aid training, equipment and support.

Across the three towns, Ange engaged directly with local residents, businesses and community groups, sharing practical advice, demonstrating equipment such as mobility aids, and supporting organisations to ensure their Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are ready when needed.

A key part of the initiative is encouraging businesses to make their first aid kits and AEDs more visible and accessible to the public. Participating locations can display Safe Town supporter stickers, helping build a network of safer spaces within each community.

The long-term vision is to expand this initiative across Tasmania, working towards a future where every town has accessible first aid resources, trained community members, and a shared commitment to safety.

This East Coast tour was an important first step, and we look forward to continuing the journey.

How to get involved

The Safe Town Initiative is community-led, with several ways to get involved.

Become a Safe Town supporter

Businesses and organisations can support their community by making their defibrillator or first aid kit publicly available in an emergency. Supporters receive a Safe Town window decal and are recognised as part of a growing network of community safety leaders.

Partner with St John

St John is working with councils, community groups, schools and local industries to bring the Safe Town Initiative to more communities across Tasmania. Email marketing@stjohntas.org.au to find out more.
