Community Safe Grant Recipients Announcement

St John Tasmania is proud to announce the latest recipients of our Community Safe Grant – an initiative that supports deserving community groups with life-saving defibrillators and training to help create safer, stronger communities across the state.

After reviewing a strong field of applications, two organisations have been selected for this round of the grant program. Both groups demonstrated significant community impact and a clear need for improved emergency preparedness.

Grant Recipients

1. Home Base (Hobart Area)

Home Base provides essential support services to vulnerable young Tasmanians, including two youth homelessness shelters – Colville Place and Mara House. Their programs assist young people aged 12 to 20 who may be experiencing homelessness, family crisis, mental health challenges, substance dependence or other significant risks.

An AED will strengthen the safety of these residential environments, providing staff and residents with fast access to life-saving equipment if a cardiac emergency occurs.

2. Middleton Volunteer Fire Brigade (Southern Rural Region)

Middleton Volunteer Fire Brigade is a community-based emergency response unit serving several remote communities, from Birches Bay to Garden Island Creek. The brigade responds to bushfires, road accidents and medical emergencies, often reaching residents long before formal ambulance services can arrive.

Their volunteers are frontline responders who frequently face high-risk situations. A new AED will enhance their ability to respond quickly to cardiac emergencies and will also help keep volunteers safe during emergency operations.

Support for Applicants Who Were Not Selected

While grant funding is limited, St John is committed to supporting all community groups working to improve local safety.

Additional Support Available:

While some organisations were not selected in this round, St John is still committed to supporting every applicant in strengthening community safety.

All unsuccessful applicants will receive a $300 subsidy toward a full-price G5 AED, which can be redeemed in-store at our Moonah, Mowbray, or Devonport locations by presenting the notification email.

Until groups are able to access their own AED, we encourage them to check for publicly accessible defibrillators at nearby schools or community locations, ensuring that support is available in an emergency.

Building a Safer Tasmania, Together

St John Tasmania is proud to partner with local organisations who are making a genuine difference. Each donation helps strengthen community resilience and gives more Tasmanians a better chance in an emergency.

The next round of Community Safe Grants will open on 2 February 2026, and we encourage all eligible organisations to apply.
